While the New Vauxhall Astra is dynamic to drive and a great performer, it's ECOTEC engines cut fuel consumption and CO2 emmissions by more than 12 per cent compared with current generation of powertrains. All engines meet the Euro 5 emmissions standards - in other words, ECOTEC engines prove it's possible to balance lively performance with fuel efficiency and low emissions.

Diesel choices range from the super-frugal 1.3 CDTI through to 1.7 CDTI variants tot he 2.0 CDTI. All share cutting-edge, multi-injection, common rail systems, variable geometry turbo chargers, 16-valve and electronic EGR technology.
Petrol engines range from the two normally aspirated 1.4 ECOTEC engines and the 1.6 ECOTEC to their powerful downsized turbocharged versions giving 103kW (140PS) and 132 kW (180 PS) respectively. All feature 16-valve technology, advanced induction systems, with optimised swirlcharacteristics and weight-saving materials and construction developments.
